Two legendary Brighton venues announce they are working together to provide the very best of screen and live entertainment under one roof!
The Duke of Yorks Picturehouse has a brand new three-screen cinema within the Komedia building on Gardner Street in Brighton. The new development is the result of an innovative collaboration between Komedia and Picturehouse Cinemas.
The newly remodeled building will combine Komedia's award-winning programme of comedy, cabaret, live music and children's theatre in the refurbished and technically enhanced downstairs cabaret and studio theatre, with the Duke of Yorks cinematic experience, which Brighton knows and loves, taking place in a newly created cinema upstairs.
Komedia's downstairs cabaret and Studio will have a full refurbishment including improved sound, video and lighting equipment, which will enable these spaces to put on a larger and even more varied programme of live performance.
The two iconic venues will work together to develop the Gardner Street site, with construction due to start this summer and planned completion in December 2012, just in time for the CINECITY Brighton Film Festival. The new cinema will be one of the key host venues for Brighton's Film Festival CINECITY, held each year in November/December. CINECITY is a co-production of The Duke of York's Picturehouse and the University of Brighton.
The three screens have 149, 110 and 32 seats each. This total 291 extra seats capacity on top of the 283 at the Duke of Yorks. At the entrance there will be a cafe/bar and there will be a mezzanine bar at the entrance to the screens. All three screens will have state of the art digital projection and be furnished with the most comfortable reclining seats. The three extra screens allow The Duke of Yorks to expand its already eclectic and very popular programme of cinema, alternative content, music, special events, cult and classic repertory and unique nights.
